Assist America Announces Medical Referrals via Text Messaging

Global Emergency Medical Referrals at the Fingertips of UHCSR Insured Students

St. Petersburg, FL - 6/24/2011 Scholastic Emergency Services, an Assist America partner, announced last week that insured students can now access global medical referrals via text messaging when traveling 100 miles or more from their permanent home or campus address.

UnitedHealthcare StudentResources insured students could simply call SES’s 24/7 Operations Center to request medical referrals sent via text. Insured students would then receive a list of medical providers, hospitals or urgent care clinics nearest to their travel location. Having this pertinent information right at their fingertips would make it convenient for traveling students to plug an address into a GPS or show a taxi driver who doesn't speak their language how to easily get them to their destination.

Assist America, Inc. is the world’s largest provider of global emergency assistance in partnership with insurance benefit plans. UnitedHealthcare StudentResources is proud to have partnered with Assist America since 2002.

“We are excited about the new Assist America Mobile feature,” said Diane Heredia, Senior Account Executive of Scholastic Emergency Services. “We believe that it will make accessing global emergency medical services more convenient for our insured students and aid in shaping the future of healthcare through innovation.”

UnitedHealthcare StudentResources includes SES on policies to provide students and their families with immediate resources to solve medical emergencies when away from home, and protect them from the costs associated with emergency medical evacuation and repatriation, which are usually not covered by health insurance policies.
